I have over 20 years experience teaching geography including eight years as head of a large
successful department. Since January 2001 I have been a full time freelance geography author
writing internet lessons for a number of publishers in particular for 'learn.co.uk' - the Guardian
newspaper's educational website. The work that I am proudest of was the development and
production of a series of interactive video lessons based on Channel 4 schools programmes -
these are in the 'premium' section of the learn site.
My interest in photography goes back to the early 1980s and I have had photos published as
part of illustrated magazine articles including the Geographical magazine, in books, on the
internet, and used for calendars and postcards. In addition to running my site for schools I earn
my living as a full time freelance stock photographer licencing Rights Managed images
internationally through a number of agencies.
As an educator I am absolutley convinced of the power of photography. Photos are brilliant at
promoting thinking skills and enquiry learning - look at any photo and questions inevitably pop
into your mind.
My ambition is to create a site that becomes a valued 'first port of call' for teachers of geography
at all levels, and which allows other geographers/photographers to contribute images to further
develop geography education.
Other than that I do supply teaching to help ends meet!
